Our eyes tend to reflect one of the first signs of aging—perhaps a sign that we are getting wiser as well. Nonetheless, many people wish to keep the wisdom but prefer a more youthful appearance to their eyes.
Dr. Joshua Halpern is very experienced in performing eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper lids, the lower lids, or both. Eyelid surgery can reduce the complicated appearance of wrinkly or excess skin areas around the eyes and remove fat/bags from the upper and lower eyelids. It also helps reduce the dark area under the eye and is a procedure that produces outstanding results.
It helps people look younger, fresher, and not so tired.
Additionally, the incisions in this particular procedure are well-hidden. If a patient has excess skin that partially blocks their vision, then blepharoplasty is a practical solution that can potentially solve their problem.
Dr. Joshua Halpern specializes in blepharoplasty using The Finesse Technique® a surgical method he invented that combines technical skill with a unique artistic touch. The Finesse Technique® minimizes blood loss during surgery, which reduces bruising, swelling, and pain afterward. Using the Finesse Technique® for blepharoplasty means patients can return to normal life sooner and look fresher faster.
A pre-procedure consultation with Dr. Halpern will include a full discussion of your medical history, as well as a discussion of your concerns, expectations, or questions.
Blepharoplasty can be performed under twilight sedation or general anesthesia.
The procedure itself involves making small incisions in the crease of the upper eyelid (upper blepharoplasty) and just beneath the lower lash line (lower blepharoplasty).
Skin is tightened, and excess fat removed or re-positioned. Dr. Halpern closes the upper eyelid with a hidden suture and some extra fine surgical sutures.
Eyes say so much about a person, including how well they are aging. That’s because the thin tissue surrounding the eyes can be the first part of the face to show skin laxity. The resulting droopiness can diminish the contour and clarity of your eyes, making you look tired or older than you feel. Happily, some of this can be corrected with blepharoplasty.
Each person recovers differently from surgery, but you can expect some bruising and swelling for several days following the procedure. Because of The Finesse Technique® this recovery period is much less than with other traditional blepharoplasty techniques.
Many patients go back to work within five days. Your surgical team will send you home with detailed instructions on how to care for your incisions. Although you should notice a big difference as soon as the swelling subsides, full results can take several months as the skin around your eyes heals and settles.
Blepharoplasty cost varies depending on the complexity and extent of the surgery and whether it is being combined with other rejuvenation procedures. You will be provided an accurate cost estimate during your consultation once Dr. Halpern has evaluated your needs.
It is not uncommon for patients in their 30s and 40s to combine eyelid surgery with an endoscopic miniscar brow and cheek lift surgery, which Dr. Halpern helped pioneer. Patients 50 years and older commonly get a facelift and/or brow lift performed at the same time as an eyelid lift.
