Young women typically look great in sleeveless clothes. As they age though, they may develop fat on the upper arms. For some patients, the fat can be removed with Ultrashape or liposuction.
If however, there is also a significant amount of excess skin, then Dr. Joshua Halpern performs a brachioplasty or upper arm lift, a surgical procedure to remove this extra skin on the upper arms above the elbows. Many women decide it is time to see Dr. Halpern about this issue when they no longer feel comfortable wearing sleeveless or strapless clothing.
There are different ways to perform this surgery and to place scars. Dr. Halpern has the expertise and experience to determine these upon examination of the patient. He tries to make the scars as hidden and unobtrusive as possible. This is the artist in him. One way he does this is to sew up the patient himself. He also does not use staples, as these leave unsightly and wider scars. (Many surgeons use staples to decrease their surgical time.)
