We all have some form of skin concern. Whether that is acne scarring, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, or even mild skin laxity; it can be frustrating trying to find a treatment that doesn’t require downtime and recovery—and actually works!

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that prompts the body’s healing responses to rejuvenate the skin from the inside out. Microneedling is a natural way to renew your skin to reveal a more youthful, glowing complexion.

Our microneedling technicians are highly trained and experienced, providing smooth, vibrant microneedling results that can improve a variety of skin concerns. We are proud to offer this transformative aesthetic treatment at our medspa in Tampa, Florida.

How Does Microneedling Work?

We have powerful rejuvenating substances within our skin—we just have to bring them out. That’s precisely what microneedling does. By creating micro-injuries to the skin, microneedling prompts the body to heal these injuries. It does this by promoting the production of collagen–a powerful protein responsible for healthy skin cells, elasticity, and youthful skin.

As collagen surges in the skin, common skin issues begin to heal. The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is reduced, redness from acne scarring and hyperpigmentation is minimized, and the skin is more plump and firm. Additionally, microneedling works to exfoliate the skin, prompting more skin cell renewal that sheds old, damaged skin and replaces it with new, healthy cells.

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Microneedling is a revolutionary, yet minimally invasive treatment that combats common signs of aging as well as skin damage for patients of all ages. Microneedling treatment can target mild to moderate concerns such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Textural irregularities
  • Dull skin
  • Minor skin laxity
  • Improved absorption of skin care products

Who Is a Candidate for Microneedling Treatments?

Microneedling is a fantastic aesthetic treatment for patients of all ages; older patients with mild to moderate fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, and sun damage can benefit from the firming and plumping properties of new collagen production.

Younger patients can also benefit from microneedling as a prejuvenation treatment, maintaining their youthful contours, keeping their skin healthy with robust collagen and skin cell renewal, and helping promote the healing of acne scarring.

How Is a Microneedling Treatment Performed?

Our microneedling technicians are trained to provide the most effective and comfortable experience to provide satisfying results in a medically supervised setting. Additionally, we use the most cutting-edge technology, with the Exceed™ medical microneedling device, which delivers enhanced treatment versatility, allowing our technicians to adjust the depth of the needles for more precise treatment.

Microneedling sessions can be completed in under one hour, with time to allow a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area for optimum comfort. Your technician will pass the microneedling device head over the treatment area, paying particular attention to areas of more moderate scarring, textural irregularities, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. The treatment will be tailored to your needs, as the depth of the needle penetration can be adjusted to reach more severe concerns, as well as provide more gentle treatment to sensitive areas such as under the eyes.

Once treatment is completed, you may be treated with a soothing moisturizer or SPF sunscreen to protect your skin.

Is There Any Downtime After Microneedling?

This minimally invasive treatment requires no downtime, as minimal recovery is needed. This quick and effective treatment can be done at any time in your schedule; many patients choose to have microneedling sessions during their lunch breaks.

Following treatment, your skin may feel sensitive, and you may see some redness, which should dissipate within a few hours. Some patients may see pinprick-sized red marks, which are tiny micro-injuries caused by the needles. It is essential to wear a strong sunscreen, as your skin will be sensitive to UV. You should wear sunscreen every day to get the best results, but at least following the first few days, be sure apply SPF of at least 30 or greater. The next day, you may resume your normal activities and skincare routine; just avoid harsh treatments such as acid or chemical exfoliants and retinol.

As your skin begins to repair itself, you may experience barely visible scabbing from the micro-injuries, and your skin may feel slightly itchy as it works to shed the old skin and heal. Be sure to treat your skin to plenty of moisture in the following days, which will aid in the healing process.

When Will I See My Microneedling Results?

The healing process from microneedling will vary slightly from patient to patient. However, you can expect to see an improvement in skin texture and tone after just a few days. Many patients remark that following their treatment, their skin glows from within, as the old skin has been shed and new, healthy skin begins to show. Results are best seen with multiple treatments in a 12 week period.

With continued treatments, microneedling can repair acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and textural issues. Your skin will feel smooth and soft, with less visible fine lines and wrinkles.

Microneedling is gentle enough that it can be easily combined with some of our non-surgical medspa treatments. For an added benefit, PRP (platelet rich plasma) can be done to enhance results and produce collagen.

Do I need to prepare for my microneedling session?
There is very little preparation necessary for microneedling. You may be advised to avoid harsh skin treatments a week before your session, including chemical exfoliants, acids, and retinol, as these may make your skin more sensitive. You should also avoid: over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen and aspirin, Vitamin E supplements as well as omega-3.

You may resume your usual skincare routine a day after your session.
